Leaving home at Friday 25.th of May, we meet at the
highway restaurant in Hollenstedt, but
leaving was 1 1/2h delayed, because of some traffic jam ,15:45 we start, but fuel
is low, and
there's no fuel station near this restaurant, so we first have to search for a fuel
station, which is
found 20km later, next delay. Ok, shit happens, so, full of optimism, we run
40km, and oops, it
starts raining, so, another stop for putting on the raining clothes, and, like
always, rain stops
soon after continuing this break, and, after felt 2h, we reached Bremen, but
from that on everything
goes fine, at 20:30 we reach the youth hostel in Brüggen near the NL-border. First
test this night
is: 4 people in one room, we solve it, because everybody is snoring, nobody
can complain.
Next day, we're leaving towards our next target, Dunkerque, from where our ferry
is
going at 14.00. After 4h, including half an hour break, we reach dunkerque,
leaving the
netherlands and belgium behind.
after furthermore 2 hours and 37€ for the prebooked boattravel, we reach the
the chalk cliffs of Dover at 15.00. A short sidetrip to
Margate leads me back to 1974, when I was here for vacation and learning english
in
1974.
3 summers, I had the opportunity, to improve my knowledge in English
language and
french girls.
London is a little bit disappointing, because the weather is typical british,
so my day
trip to the city of london comprises in visiting the aquarium straight across
from
Big Ben, and
the lengendary ACE-Cafe.

On monday, we leave London and after a 2h-heavy rain, we get to
Stonehenge. A few ten minutes before arrival, the rain stops and donates us a dry
photosession. Temperature raises from +2-3(felt minus) again to 12-14 °C.
Yes, we have had some real holiday feelings coming up, after this terrible rain.
50km north we arrive at 'little Stonehhenge', called Avebury. It's a stone
circle too, not
mounted to one building, but placed single by single in a big circle.
(Church of Avebury)
in the evening, we reach Wantage, where a youth hostel awaits us, some years ago,
it was
a horse ranch and we got a 10-bed room on the garret.
On tuesday the weather is best and the view from the youthhostel is wonderful.
After
a short break for breakfast in the centre of wantage, we leave for birmingham,
where we visit
the National Motorcycle Museum, 4 big halls are filled with mass(some 100's) of british
motorbikes,
each by each in a perfect condition, seeming to be new. Very interesting
and 7 pounds for entrance are
absolutely adequat.

this evening we have planned to stay overnight in Liverpool. A truely modern Youthhostel
give us
a hotel-feeling,
but the price is hotel-like too, 35 Pounds each in a 4-bed-room.
Later we spend some hours in
the Baltic Fleet pub, very recommendable. A pub with a very british flair and
selfbrewed
beer(ale), accompanied with some beers from all over europe.
Wednesday, we take the ferry to Isle of Man. The TT awaits us and the
training week has
already begun. We are very exited, just like little boys in front of a toy
store.
At the harbour of Liverpool some 300 like-minded people wait for the ferry.
Short after
Midday, we reach Douglas, get a primitive room in Greeba.
Next day, we orient on the island, having a roundtrip for the two newbies of
us.
